Metro Detroit's weather is expected to start the week dry, get a little wet as it goes on and remain warmer than normal.

On Monday, showers could move in by the afternoon, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service's office in White Lake Township.

NWS also issued a hazardous weather outlook Monday for more than a dozen counties, including Macomb, Monroe, Livingston, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. The main threat will be from 2-7 p.m.

"A broken line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move across the area this afternoon and evening," officials said in a statement. "Isolated strong to severe storms are possible, resulting in wind gusts to 60 mph. There is a marginal Risk of severe weather for most of southeast Michigan."

Temperatures Monday are expected to reach a high of 78 degrees and a low of 59, according to the agency's forecast. The day's normal high is about 64 and the normal low is 44, weather service data said.

The record for warmest April 29 in Detroit was set in 1899 with 83. The coldest was in 1909 at 39.

A cold front is predicted to cross the region overnight as the area dries out Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather service said. The high could dip slightly to 72. The forecast calls for readings to jump back up on Wednesday, reaching a high of 79.

A low-pressure system is expected to follow on Thursday and may bring rain at night. The mercury could top out at 76.

Friday's high could climb near 80, NWS said.
