A 22-year-old Pontiac man was killed Tuesday after crashing his motorcycle into a curb, according to authorities.

The crash happened at about 11:30 p.m. on East Huron Street near Paddock Street in Pontiac, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said the victim was operating a 2006 Yamaha YZ-FR6 motorcycle and was traveling east on Huron Street. He was part of a group of four people riding motorcycles, they said. Witnesses said the man was wearing a helmet.

The victim failed to negotiate a curve as Huron Street approaches a split at M-59, and his motorcycle struck the far right curb. He was ejected into a guard rail, the sheriff's office said.

He continued to travel onto the grass-covered shoulder where he finally came to a stop, officials said.

His motorcycle continued to travel east on Huron Street before it tipped over and stopped in the far right lane. Medics transported him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies continue to investigate.
