Some areas near the intersection of 12 Mile and Telegraph roads in Southfield were without power Tuesday, a day after an electrical fire in the area, officials said.

Flames shot out of a manhole cover Monday evening, knocking out a traffic signal.

Flames shot out of a manhole Monday at the intersection of 12 Mile and Telegraph roads, knocking out a traffic signal and power in the area, officials with the Road Commission for Oakland County said.

On Tuesday, DTE's outage map showed a number of customers near the intersection and in neighboring Bingham Farms, Beverly Hills and Franklin were without power.

More than 1,000 reported service outages in the area of 13 Mile Road and Telegraph.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, said Cindy Hecht, a DTE representative.

"DTE’s Emergency Response Teams worked to restore more than 3,300 of the customers impacted by the outage," Hecht said in an email. "Our teams will continue working throughout the day, including installation of utility generators, to restore the remaining 1,174 customers still without power. We expect that all customers will be restored by this evening. We know how difficult it is to be without power and we deeply apologize for this inconvenience."
