A 52-year-old man has been charged in connection with allegedly exposing himself on the side of the road in Oakland County, Bloomfield Township police announced Monday.

Township officers were dispatched to Opdyke Road and North Fox Hills Road at around 2:30 p.m. April 8 on a report of man in a khaki coat and pants masturbating there, police said in a release.

A witness told police the man, identified as Gregory Benson, had been lying in the ditch on Opdyke, according to the statement.

"The witness, believing that Benson was hurt or injured, turned around to check on him," police wrote. "At that time Benson started walking toward him. Benson's pants were down and his genitals were out..."

Officers arrested Benson and learned he also had several warrants out for offenses including burglary, retail fraud, disorderly person and having open intoxicants, police said.

Benson was transported to the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

He was arraigned last week through the 48th District Court, records show.

Bond was set at $10,000. Benson was also ordered to not leave Michigan without permission and to not posses firearms or other dangerous weapons.

He remains at the Oakland County Jail.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
