Michigan State Police are investigating a car crash last weekend that killed a pedestrian and injured three others on Interstate 75 in Holly.

Troopers were called at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday to northbound I-75 south of East Holly Road for a report of a hit-and-run crash in the freeway's left lane and in a construction zone, authorities said.

After the hit-and-run crash, four people involved in the collision exited their vehicles, police said. As they stood in the roadway to exchange information, another vehicle struck the rear of a stopped car, MSP reported.

Officials said the impact caused a chain reaction and three of the people who were standing outside the vehicles were struck.

One, a 24-year-old from Alpena, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers tended to another pedestrian who suffered a compound fracture with a tourniquet and was taken to a hospital.

Authorities said the third pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

Police said the driver who struck the stopped vehicles was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

MSP said they would submit their findings to the county prosecutor's office to determine charges once the investigation is completed.
