An Oakland County man died Wednesday after his motorcycle crashed into a car in Oxford Township, officials said.

Jimmie Allen Haggadone, 66, of Orion Township, was identified as the victim in the crash reported about 4:45 p.m. on Lapeer Road near Oakwood Road, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

According to a preliminary investigation, Haggadone was on a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle traveling southbound on North Lapeer Road when he approached a flashing yellow signal at West Oakwood Road.

At about the same time, a 54-year-old Farmington Hills man driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla east on West Oakwood and stopped for a flashing red signal at North Lapeer, police said.

Officials said the Corolla turned right onto southbound North Lapeer into the motorcycle's path. The motorcycle struck the car and the crash threw Haggadone off the machine, authorities said. He landed in the road's median.

First responders were called and medics took both him and the car's driver to a hospital. Medical staff pronounced Haggadone dead, according to the sheriff's office. The Corolla's driver was treated for minor injuries and released.

Officials said the investigation into the crash is ongoing and speed may have been a factor.

They also said it's unknown if Haggadone was wearing a helmet while riding.
