Police released this photo of the twins who were believed to have been abducted from Livonia but were safely returned to Detroit police.

Michigan State Police said 14-day-old twin infants who were taken from Livonia have been found and the Amber Alert issued for them has been canceled.

Officials said the children, Montana Alexander Bridges and Matthew Jace Bridges, were recovered safely.

During an 11:45 a.m. news conference held outside the Detroit Police Department's Ninth Precinct, Detroit Police Chief James White said the two boys were turned over to officers at the precinct at about 9:30 a.m. The precinct is located on Gratiot Avenue near Gunston Avenue on the city's east side.

"We have the best outcome possible," White said. "The two kids have been recovered."

He said the boys were taken to a hospital to be evaluated but appeared to be in good condition and had no visible injuries.

The chief declined to identify who brought the two children into the police station. He also said police have no one in custody in connection with their abduction.

Livonia police is leading the investigation into the alleged abduction, White also said.

He was joined by Livonia police Capt. Gregory Yon and Devin Kowalski, acting special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit office.

Yon said Livonia police received a call at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday reporting the twin infants were missing.

"A woman called and reported her children were missing from a motel in our city," he said. "We immediately began an investigation. An AMBER alert was sent out and the children were dropped off here today safe and sound."

Police said this is a photo of the two women suspected of taking the two twin boys.

Yon said it is not clear why the children were taken. The captain said the boys' mother left them with acquaintances at the motel and left for a period of time, but when she returned the children and her friends were gone.

"We're still trying to figure out what happened," Yon said.

When issuing the alert Monday, authorities said the twins were endangered. Police said they believed the boys were both only wearing diapers and had been with two unidentified women. At the time, they said the women could have been traveling in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with chrome trim around the passenger windows last seen near a Quality Inn on Plymouth Road in Livonia.

Yon also added the investigation is ongoing and police cannot share further details.

Kowalski praised everyone who helped find the missing children.

"It wasn't long ago that we were standing out here delivering some different news," he said. "I'm very proud of the law enforcement effort and very appreciative of the community."

Kowalski was referring to the abduction and death of 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith. The girl was abducted last month in Lansing and her body was found in Detroit. The man accused of killing her, Rashad Trice, 26, has been indicted on federal charges in connection with her death.
