Motorcyclist dies in high speed crash on I-96, police say

A motorcyclist is dead after a crash Tuesday night on Interstate 96 in Detroit, Michigan State Police reported.

The a 23-year-old man from Farmington Hills rear-ended a Ford Fusion in an eastbound right lane near Scotten at a high speed around 8:55 p.m., MSP said in posts on X.

The Fusion driver hit an embankment and rolled over as the motorcyclist flew off the bike, skidding eastbound, according to MSP.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified, according to MSP.

Another driver in an eastbound Chevy Bolt hit the Fusion and also rolled over, state police reported.

The Chevy Bolt driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

“Excessive speed is a leading cause of fatal traffic crashes across the state," First Lt. Mike Shaw, a spokesman for MSP, said on X. “This risky driving behavior is even worse on a motorcycle. As the riding season approaches we are urging motorcycle drivers to slow down and drive safely.”
