Thank the weather and a reckless driver for road work scheduled to close part of Interstate 94 in Wayne County on Thursday.

Crews will close the right two lanes of westbound I-94 between Haggerty and Belleville roads beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation said.

The two right lanes of westbound I-94 between Haggerty and Belleville roads in Wayne County will close at 9 a.m. on Thursday for concrete repairs, the Michigan Department of Transporation said.

They will repair the stretch of the freeway's concrete and are expected to finish by 5 p.m. Friday, MDOT said. The right lane will be closed for about a week while the concrete cures, officials said. Access to the Belleville Rest Area as well as the Belleville Road exit and entrance ramps will be open.

Officials said the weather delayed the planned repairs.

Department officials also said they had already repaired the same stretch of freeway last Saturday and closed it to enable fresh concrete to cure. However, a reckless driver opted to avoid the orange barrels around the area and drove on the shoulder and the fresh concrete, damaging the new roadway, according to MDOT.
