U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell re-elected to third term

Democratic U.S. Rep Debbie Dingell won her third term Tuesday, defeating Republican Jeff Jones, according to an Associated Press projection.

Dingell beat Jones, a businessman and minister from Troy, 68.1 percent to 28.9 , with 100 percent of precincts reporting. 

Working Class Party candidate Gary Walkowicz, a United Auto Workers member, was trailing the other two candidates with 2 percent of the vote in the U.S. House District 12 race.

Dingell of Dearborn took over representing the district in 2015 from her husband, long-time John Dingell, who was the longest-serving member of Congress in American history.

Before being elected to Congress, Dingell chaired the Wayne State University Board of Governors and was president of the General Motors Foundation, along with a senior executive responsible for public affairs.

Earlier this fall, President Donald Trump signed a bill that Dingell co-sponsored, the Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act, banning pharmacists from not telling customers about what cheaper drug options may be available. 

Dingell serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in addition to being a senior whip for Democrats.
