5-star PG Tyrese Maxey picks Kentucky over UM, MSU

The Detroit News

Michigan and Michigan State’s basketball teams didn’t get any five-star help Wednesday.

In no surprise, Tyrese Maxey, a five-star point guard from Texas, announced Wednesday he would play at Kentucky, considered the favorite for his services. Michigan and Michigan State were among his five finalists, which also included Texas and Ohio State.

Maxey (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) is rated the No. 13 player in the nation in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He averaged 22.5 points, seven rebounds and 3.1 assists for South Garland High this past season.

Maxey, who considered reclassifying for 2018, will be part of the 2019 recruiting class.

Michigan and Michigan State have no commits yet for 2019.
