Saturday's state basketball: Eastern Michigan edges Kent State in OT

Ypsilanti — Orlando Lovejoy's layup with a second left in overtime lifted Eastern Michigan to a 71-69 win over Kent State on Saturday night.

Tyem Freeman hit two free throws to give Kent State a 66-63 lead with :18 left in regulation, but Arne Osojnik drilled a 3-pointer with :07 left and Lovejoy made a steal at the buzzer to force the extra period.

Lovejoy finished with 16 points and had three steals for the Eagles (8-6, 1-1 Mid-American Conference). Connor Serven scored 15 points while going 5 of 10 and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line, and added eight rebounds. Tyson Acuff shot 4 for 16 (1 for 6 from 3-point range) and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points, while adding seven assists.

Chris Payton led the Golden Flashes (8-6, 1-1) in scoring, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Sullinger added 14 points and three steals for Kent State. VonCameron Davis also recorded 11 points.

Both teams next play Tuesday. Eastern Michigan hosts Central Michigan and Kent State plays Toledo at home.

▶Central Michigan 71, (at) Ball State 65: Aidan Rubio's 18 points helped Central Michigan. Rubio shot 6 for 9, including 4 for 6 from beyond the arc for the Chippewas (6-8, 1-1 Mid-American Conference). Anthony Pritchard added 15 points while going 5 of 9 and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line, and they had five rebounds and six assists. Derrick Butler was 4 of 7 shooting, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 4 for 5 from the line to finish with 14 points.

Davion Bailey finished with 21 points for the Cardinals (8-6, 0-2). Basheer Jihad added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Ball State. In addition, Jalin Anderson finished with 11 points and four assists.

▶Western Michigan 82, (at) Buffalo 77: Seth Hubbard scored 19 and had five rebounds for the Broncos (5-9, 2-0 Mid-American Conference). B. Artis White added 17 points while going 6 of 16 (3 for 6 from 3-point range), and he had six assists. Anthony Crump was 4-of-5 shooting and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points, while adding 10 rebounds.

Sy Chatman led the Bulls (2-12, 1-1) in scoring, finishing with 24 points. Isaiah Adams added 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for Buffalo. Ryan Sabol also put up 15 points.

(At) Oakland 79, Green Bay 73: Trey Townsend had 28 points and added 11 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (9-8, 4-2 Horizon League). Blake Lampman scored 19 points while shooting 7 for 15, including 5 for 11 from beyond the arc, and added three steals. Isaiah Jones was 2 of 3 shooting and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line to finish with 12 points.

The Phoenix (9-8, 4-2) were led in scoring by David Douglas Jr., who finished with 15 points and two steals. Preston Ruedinger added 13 points and four assists for Green Bay. Noah Reynolds had 12 points.

Milwaukee 84, (at) Detroit Mercy 61: Erik Pratt scored 20 points and Milwaukee handed the Titans their 17th straight loss.

Pratt was 7 of 11 shooting (6 for 10 from 3-point range) for the Panthers (8-8, 3-2 Horizon League). BJ Freeman scored 15 points while going 4 of 15 from the floor, including 0 for 4 from 3-point range, and 7 for 7 from the line, and added nine rebounds. Kentrell Pullian shot 6 for 14 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line to finish with 15 points.

Marcus Tankersley led the Titans (0-17, 0-6) in scoring, finishing with 18 points and two steals. Donovann Toatley added 16 points and three steals for Detroit Mercy. Kyle LeGreair also had five points. The Titans extended their losing streak to 17 straight.

Wisconsin-Parkside 76, (at) Wayne State 58: Colin O-Rourke and Sam DeVault each scored 18 for Parkside (8-6, 3-1 GLIAC). Ray Williams Jr. scored 15 and Matt Coffey 10 for Wayne State (7-6, 1-3).
