State hoops roundup: Ferris State eliminates Wayne State in GLIAC tournament

Ferris State defeated Wayne State, 91-81, at Big Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday to advance to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game.

The Bulldogs' bench carried a lot of the weight, with Vejas Grazulis scoring 26 and Ethan Erickson 14. Starters Dolapo Olayinka (14 points) and Jack Ammerman (11) also scored in double figures.

Wayne State had six players score in double figures, led by Rob Lee Jr. with 17 points and Carmelo Harris with 12.

Ferris State (24-7) advances to Sunday's title game where it will face Grand Valley State, a 92-77 winner over Northern Michigan in the other semifinal.

Wayne State finishes 14-15.

(At) Trinity 69, Calvin 62: Ben Callahan-Gold scored 15 and Will Dorion 11 for Trinity (30-1) in a national quarterfinal. Owen Varnado scored 21 and Trevin Winkle 12 for Calvin (25-5).

(At) Eastern Michigan 59, Bowling Green 54: Olivia Westphal scored 16, Lachelle Austin 15 and Kennedi Myles 11 for Eastern Michigan (7-22, 3-15 MAC). Erika Porter scored 21 for Bowling Green (16-13, 10-8).

Akron 65, (at) Central Michigan 57: Alexus Mobley scored 23 and Reagan Bass 12 for Akron (11-18, 6-12 MAC). Rochelle Norris scored 18 and Tamara Ortiz 12 for Central Michigan (6-22, 4-13).

Northern Illinois 66, (at) Western Michigan 64: Brooke Stonebraker scored 18 and Jayden Marable 13 for Northern Illinois (15-15, 8-10 MAC). Kaitlyn Zarycki scored 20 and Nile Muguira Orbe 16 for Western Michigan (12-17, 7-11).
