'I made my comments': Dantonio done talking about pregame incident

East Lansing — The back-and-forth over what happened before the Michigan-Michigan State game last Saturday is over, at least as far as Mark Dantonio is concerned.

The Spartans coach opened his weekly press conference on Tuesday listing his priorities and saying he was done taking any more questions about the altercation that occurred near midfield at Spartan Stadium between a handful of Michigan and Michigan State players, resulting in a war of words over the past few days between Dantonio and Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.

“First of all, might as well get things out of the way in regards to recent comments and etc.,” Dantonio said. “Every week I sort of get a goal card. I sit down and make a goal card. Every week. And on that goal card I try and prioritize what’s important in my life. So, when I look at it, I go — boom, boom, boom, right down the list.

“The first thing I’m gonna say about this, I’m not gonna make any more comment about the situation. I made my comments and I’m gonna let God take care of my battles, that’s No. 1. No. 2, I’m gonna take care of my family. No. 3, I’m gonna take care of this football program and represent it with class. No. 4, I’m gonna worry about Purdue, move on to X's and O’s and personnel involved in that and that’s it.

“So I’ll take no other questions about that and we’ll move on to Purdue otherwise it will be the shortest conference and you guys all drove up here for nothing. So I’ll take questions on Purdue.”

After Michigan’s 21-7 victory, Harbaugh called Michigan State’s actions “bush league” and called out Dantonio for being right in the middle of it. Dantonio responded by calling Harbaugh’s comments, “B.S.”

During Dantonio’s weekly Sunday night teleconference, he said he wanted to move on from the “juvenile” incident. That got Harbaugh going again at his weekly Monday press conference.

“I see where they’re using the word juvenile,” Harbaugh said. “I think that’s trying to brush it under the carpet because their strength coaches were out there leading it. Their assistant coaches were out there. Coach Dantonio was right behind it. That had all the ear-markings and evidence of an orchestrated stormtrooper march.”

Will that end things? Probably not, especially as next season’s matchup on Nov. 16 in Ann Arbor gets closer. For now, though, it appears Michigan has begun to focus on recruiting during its bye week while Michigan State (4-3, 2-2 Big Ten) dials in on Purdue (4-3, 3-1), which comes to Spartan Stadium for a noon kickoff on Saturday.
