Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith landed his first recruit of the 2025 class.

Three-star quarterback Leo Hannan intends to play for the Spartans next season, according to multiple recruiting outlets.

Hannan is from Anaheim, California, a short distance from Smith’s hometown of Pasadena, and had been a priority of Smith and his staff even when they were at Oregon State. He’s listed as the 50th best quarterback of his class, according to 247Sports Composite ranking.

Hannan, who’s 6-foot-4 and weighs 210 pounds, had received offers from four other schools, including Arizona, Colorado, Arkansas and BYU, but opted to continue his football career in East Lansing.

Three-star quarterback Leo Hannan intends to play for the Spartans next season, according to multiple recruiting outlets.

Shortly after Smith took over at the end of the season, Michigan State saw quarterbacks Noah Kim, Katin Houser and Sam Leavitt head out the door and into the portal. All three found different homes for next season.

But Smith acted fast to replenish the Spartans’ quarterback room, adding soon-to-be sophomore Aidan Chiles from Oregon State as well as graduate transfer Tommy Schuster (Clinton Township Chippewa Valley) from North Dakota. The Spartans also signed freshmen Ryland Jessee from California and Alessio Milivojevic from Illinois.

Chiles is expected to be the team’s starting quarterback this fall with Schuster ready on standby.
