Quarterback Jeff George Jr. transfers from Michigan

Jeff George Jr., who was briefly a member of Michigan’s quarterbacks room, has decided to move on. 

George Jr., the son of former NFL quarterback Jeff George, has decided to transfer and pursue graduate school elsewhere, Michigan football spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed Saturday. 

Michigan opens the season next Saturday at Notre Dame and Shea Patterson will be the starting quarterback.

George had announced in January his decision to leave Illinois and in June transferred to Michigan. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder plans to transfer to Pitt, The Wolverine Lounge reported Friday night. 

George played in 11 games the last two seasons with the Illini and made nine starts. He completed only 48 percent of his passes for 1,743 yards and threw 11 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

He'll be able to play immediately and still has two years of eligibility remaining.
