Michigan adds Boston College's Anthony Campanile to defensive staff

Michigan has filled one of two vacancies on its defensive  staff with Anthony Campanile.

Campanile was co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at Boston College. The previous two seasons he was the Eagles’ defensive backs coach.

“Anthony has a strong reputation for developing all-conference performers and future NFL players,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said in a written statement Friday night. “Our student-athletes will benefit greatly from his mentorship. Anthony is an excellent addition to our coaching staff and provides great flexibility with his experience working on both sides of the ball and at multiple positions.”

He spent four seasons at Rutgers, his alma mater, before moving to Boston College. He was a defensive assistant in 2012 then coached on offense his final three years working with receivers and tight ends.

Campanile began his coaching career as a student assistant coach at Rutgers in 2005. He was an assistant coach at Fair Lawn High School in New Jersey in 2006 before moving on to work with the linebackers at Don Bosco Prep in 2007-09. He was offensive coordinator 2010-11.
