While Michigan coach Sherrone Moore has several holes to fill on his defensive staff, his offensive staff is coming together.

Steve Casula, who had been a Michigan offensive analyst (2019-2021) before spending the last two seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at UMass., is now the Wolverines’ tight ends coach, the program announced Saturday.

Sherrone Moore has filled the tight ends spot on his coaching staff.

Casula replaces Grant Newsome, who moved from coaching tight ends to the offensive line, which Moore coached the last three seasons. Before he became an analyst at Michigan, Casula was offensive coordinator/tight ends coach at Ferris State.

Moore promoted Kirk Campbell to offensive coordinator — he will continue to coach quarterbacks — Newsome is coaching the offensive line, Casula the tight ends and Ron Bellamy is expected to coach receivers again, but the status of running backs coach Mike Hart remains unclear.

Michigan is expected to hire Don “Wink” Martindale as defensive coordinator, replacing Jesse Minter who is now the defensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers as part of former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s staff. Also headed to the Chargers are Michigan co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale and defensive line coach Mike Elston, while Jay Harbaugh, who coached safeties and coordinated special teams, is with the Seattle Seahawks.
