Dug McDaniel is heading from the Big Ten to the Big 12.

The former Michigan point guard announced in a social media post Wednesday that he’s transferring to Kansas State for next season.

Dug McDaniel, Michigan's leading scorer this past season, announced he's transferring to Kansas State.

McDaniel entered the transfer portal the first day it officially opened, on March 18, just a few days after Michigan’s historically awful season ended and head coach Juwan Howard was fired.

As Michigan’s primary ball-handler and facilitator this past season, McDaniel led the team in minutes (35.4), points (16.3), assists (4.7) and steals (1.1) per game. He started 26 games, but missed Michigan’s six other contests due to an academic-related suspension.

Still, when McDaniel was on the court, the 5-foot-11 guard was the Wolverines’ most productive player. He had several dazzling performances throughout his sophomore campaign, highlighted by 33-point outings against Florida and Oregon.

During his two years in Ann Arbor, McDaniel averaged 12 points, shot 36.3% from 3-point range and made 52 starts in 60 career games.

The next chapter of his career will take him to Manhattan, Kansas, where he'll play for the Wildcats and coach Jerome Tang. Kanas State finished 19-15 this past season, with an 8-10 mark in Big 12 play, and lost in the first round of the NIT to Iowa.

McDaniel, who has two years of eligibility remaining, visited TCU and Kansas State this past weekend before making his decision and committing to the Wildcats.

Three other Michigan players — center Tarris Reed Jr., guard George Washington III and forward Youssef Khayat — remain in the transfer portal after McDaniel became the first to announce his next destination.
