Farmington Hills — Courtney Lucas is making the most of her senior year, coming off the bench to score 15 to lead Southfield-Lathrup to a 55-36 victory over Farmington Hills Harrison on Friday night.

Lucas, who suffered a torn ACL injury at the end of last season, sparked a run after Harrison guard Kristen Nelson took a blow to the mouth near the end of the first half, forcing her to the bench.

Lucas scored off a steal and Antoinette Miller followed with a putback to open a 24-14 lead.

"We took advantage of it because we didn't want a repeat of last year when we had a chance to win the OAA Red and didn't get it done," Lucas said of Lathrup's two losses to Harrison last year.

Lucas continued her strong play in the second half, scoring off a putback, then making a 3-pointer to open up a 48-33 cushion early in the fourth. It was her third 3-pointer of the game.

"Coach talked about it in the locker room at halftime that we needed to rebound and get down to business," Lucas said of Lathrup coach Michele Marshall. "We really want to win that title this year."

Lathrup (11-1) is 3-0 in the OAA Red. Harrison (9-4) slipped to 1-3 in the division, struggling since the loss of its top two players, 6-foot-1 senior center Kyla Roland (hand) and junior guard Amber Stephens (knee) to injuries.

"Knowing Harrison had some kids missing, we started slow, like going through the motions, then we got going," said Marshall, pointing to the 9-9 score after the first quarter. "Courtney has been playing pretty well, shooting the ball well and giving us some good minutes. The last few games we've had one of the twins (6-3 junior centers Taiye and Kehinde Bello) in foul trouble and as a result Courtney comes in immediately for one of the twins. We go smaller when she's in, but she's a very good shooter.

"She tore her ACL with five games left in the regular season and missed the state tournament so we're very lucky to have her back and healthy this year."

Deja Church scored 13 for Lathrup, nine during the second half.

Nelson scored 13 for Harrison, 10 during the second half.
