The Detroit Tigers selected prep outfielder Max Clark at No. 3 overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. Much like the rest of a stacked top five in that draft class, Clark is wasting little time carving out a place among the game's top prospects.

Clark is No. 6 in MLB Pipeline's ranking of the top 10 outfield prospects, revealed Thursday. The 19-year-old Clark, who is No. 3 in The Detroit News top 50 Tigers prospects for 2024, is touted as a potential five-tool player. In MLB Pipeline's grades, he's among the best in two of those tools, leading the top 10 in arm (65 grade on an 80 scale) and among the leaders in the run tool (70).

"The newest top Tigers prospect was up to 97 mph off the mound during his time as an Indiana high-schooler and registered four outfield assists in a short 23-game span in pro ball," writes Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline.

In that brief cameo, Clark between the Florida Complex League and low Single-A Lakeland, Clark slashed .224/.383/.376/.759, with two homers. He added five steals in six tries.

"An electric group of speedsters dominate the grass," Dykstra writes of the group, which includes Milwaukee Brewers prospect Jackson Chourio and Peter Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs. "Chourio led the group with 44 steals in the upper Minors last season with Crow-Armstrong (37) coming in just behind. Don’t be surprised if Clark ... threatens or even passes those numbers in his first full season."

Clark is one of four Tigers prospects in Baseball America's top 100 heading into the 2024 season, unveiled this month, checking in at No. 19 to lead a quartet that includes righthander Jackson Jobe (20) and infielders Colt Keith (28) and Jace Jung (81).

Among Clark's draftmates, Wyatt Langford (selected No. 4 by the Texas Rangers), Dylan Crews (No. 2, Washington Nationals) and Walker Jenkins (No. 5, Minnesota Twins) are Nos. 3, 4 and 5 in MLB Pipeline's top outfield prospects list.
