Lakeland, Fla. — The Tigers deepened their pool of utility players Friday, signing 27-year-old Keston Hiura to a minor-league contract.

Hiura, 27, played parts of four seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2019-2022. He hit 19 home runs as a rookie in 2019, but his offensive production waned over the next three seasons. He played last season at Triple-A Nashville, where he slashed .308/.395/.565 with 23 home runs.

The Tigers added utility player Keston Hiura on Friday, signing him to a minor-league deal.

The ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft, Hiura has played mostly first and second base. He also played some in left field in Triple A last year.

He played in 284 games with the Brewers, logging 1,057 plate appearances, slashing .238/.318/.453 with a .771 OPS. He hit 50 homers but also had a 36% strikeout rate.

He is expected to be in camp when full-squad workouts begin on Monday. He could make $2 million if he gets to the big leagues.
