Vikings set franchise record for sacks in a game

There's a penalty on the kick return, and Detroit will start at the 12. 

Theo Riddick hauls in a 3-yard pass on first down. Luke Willson gets 5 yards on second down. Matthew Stafford throws a strike to Marvin Jones Jr. over the middle for a gain of 5 that'll move the chains.

Stafford goes back to Willson on first down and reaches the 38 with a 12-yard pickup.

Riddick catches a 3-yard pass on the next play and TJ Jones gets Detroit past the first-down marker with a reception that's good for 8 yards.

Stafford is sacked on first down for a loss of 6. That's Minnesota's ninth sack on the day, which ties a franchise record for the Purple People Eaters. Stafford is called for intentional grounding on second down. Riddick is wrapped up after catching a pass of 2 yards on third down.

Detroit will go for it on fourth down. Stafford throws a strike to Kenny Golladay that goes for 18 yards and moves the Lions into Viking territory at the 37.

Stafford goes to Jones Jr. on first down for a gain of 11.

Kerryon Johnson catches a pass on the next play and is forced out-of-bounds for a gain of only 2. Golladay picks up the first down with an 11-yard reception that'll make it first-and-10 at the 13 after the two-minute warning.

Two-minute warning

Stafford's throw to Johnson in the end zone is just a little high. The Vikings sack Stafford a tenth time. That's a new franchise record.

Not a great throw to Riddick on third down. It falls incomplete, and the Lions will try a field goal to grab a crucial 3 points.

Lions convert fake punt, immediately give up scoop-and-score

Matthew Stafford is pressured immediately after taking the snap and throws the ball to Kerryon Johnson, who is immediately dropped for a loss of 6. Stafford completes a 12-yard pass to Roberts on second down. Stafford throws to Golladay with three Vikings in his face, but the pass is just out of Golladay's reach. 

The Lions fake the punt, directly snapping it to Tavon Wilson for a 7-yard gain that'll give the Lions a first down.

The Lions try the flea-flicker, but Stephen Weatherly is in the backfield so quickly, LeGarrette Blount doesn't even have the chance to pitch it backwards. Speaking of pitching it backwards, Stafford pitches it to Johnson unexpectedly, and the rookie back can't hold onto the ball. Danielle Hunter scoops it up and returns it for a Vikings touchdown.

Cook fumble gives Lions life in fourth quarter

Dalvin Cook rushes for a gain of 1 on first down. He catches a 4-yard pass on second down. Minnesota tackle Brian O'Neill jumps and it'll be third-and-10. Kirk Cousins throws deep to Kyle Rudolph on third down. Rudolph is marred by Teez Tabor, who draws a flag, but catches the pass, anyway. First-and-10 at the 46.

Cousins throws to Cook on second down for a gain of 6. Cook is dropped behind the line by Okwara on second down for a loss of 1. Nevin Lawson draws a 15-yard face mask penalty while defending Adam Thielen down the sideline on third down. 

Tabor is burned by Aldrick Robinson on the next play for a 10-yard gain that'll give Minnesota a new set of downs at the Detroit 24.

Cook rushes for 4 yards on first down. Cook drops the pitch on the next play, and the ball is recovered by A'Shawn Robinson to give Detroit the ball back.

Stafford sacked career-high eight times

Kerryon Johnson goes for 4 yards on first down. Marvin Jones Jr. catches a pass and gets upfield for a gain of 14 to make it first-and-10 at the 31. 

Johnson rushes for 5 yards on first down. Stafford is absolutely rocked by Mackensie Alexander. That's the seventh time he's been sacked today, tying a career high. Make it a new career high - Stafford is sacked again on the next play to end the drive.

Sam Martin's punt is fair caught at the 21.

Detroit defense doing all it can to stay in game

Kirk Cousins rolls out and completes a 6-yard pass to Adam Thielen on first down. Latavius Murray is stopped at the line for a gain of 1. Cousins' throw to Thielen on third down falls incomplete.

Brandon Powell fair catches the punt at the 14.

Kerryon Johnson gives the offense some breathing room with a 6-yard run on first down. He gets 4 more yards on second down to move the chains.

Matthew Stafford is sacked for the fifth time this game. Stafford completes it to Marvin Jones Jr. on second down; Jones Jr. is stripped, but the ball goes out-of-bounds. Third-and-5. Stafford rolls out and throws it to Jones Jr. on the sideline, who can't hold onto the ball.

Latavius Murray gets the ball on first down and picks up 9. Kirk Cousins sneaks it up the middle for a gain of 3 on second down.

Murray runs for 3 yards on first down. Kyle Rudolph catches a 4-yard pass on second down. Adam Thielen is flagged for a false start, making it third-and-8. Aldrick Robinson makes a 10-yard reception to keep the drive alive.

Dalvin Cook is tripped up by Glover Quin after catching a pass out of the backfield, but still gets about 5 yards out of hit. Cook is hammered behind the line by Damon Harrison for a loss of 1 on second down. Cousins drops a perfect pass to Robinson deep on third down, but the Vikings receiver can't hold onto it.

Two-minute warning

Stafford scrambles away from pressure and picks up 8 yards on third down to extend the drive.

Stafford immediately loses all 8 of those yards after getting sacked on first down. He throws an incomplete pass to Marvin Jones Jr. on second down. Third-and-18 coming up. Stafford dumps it off to Riddick for a gain of 12.

Red-zone offense struggling as Lions settle for another field goal

LeGarrette Blount makes a really nice cut on first down on his way to a 7-yard gain. Blount catches a pass out of the backfield for a gain of 2. After two runs on first down, Jim Bob Cooter subs out Blount and brings in Kerryon Johnson to pick up the tough yards in the trenches. It doesn't work. Johnson gets stopped for no gain.

Detroit will go for it on fourth down. It's a play-action pass that Stafford takes off with and picks up 3 yards on the ground. It'll be first-and-10 at the 32.

Johnson goes for 5 yards on first down. Stafford fires a strike down the right sideline to Kenny Golladay. Nice catch by the second-year receiver for a pickup of 15.

Stafford has nowhere to go with the football on first down, so he just gets rid of it. The pocket collapses on Stafford quickly on second down; he's sacked for a loss of 3.

Stafford has no chance again on third down. He's sacked quickly.

Slay picks off Cousins, makes lengthy return

Sam Martin's kick goes for a touchback.

Adam Thielen gets open on a slant route and Kirk Cousins wastes no time slinging it to his top receiver for an 11-yard gain on first down. 

Dalvin Cook gets 2 yards on the next play. Thielen takes the end-around and picks up 5. Chad Beebe makes a nice move to escape from Darius Slay and picks up 6 yards to move the chains.

Cousins makes a poor decision down the right sideline and Slay picks of the pass. He returns it all the way to the Minnesota 44.

Lions settle for field goal after disappointing end to drive

Kenny Golladay takes the sweep to the right end and picks up 8 yards. LeGarrette Blount is stopped for no gain on second down to bring up third-and-2. Matthew Stafford throws a completion to TJ Jones good for 5 yards to move the chains.

Kerryon Johnson catches a pass out of the backfield and cuts up the left sideline before getting pushed out-of-bounds at the Minnesota 41 for a gain of 11.

Johnson is stopped for a gain of 1. Theo Riddick catches a quick bubble screen and gets popped immediately for another 1-yard gain. Matthew Stafford drops a gorgeous pass to Marvin Jones Jr. right between a handful of Minnesota defenders. That goes for 18 yards and makes it first-and-10 at the Viking 21.

Blount powers ahead for 2 yards on first down. Jones Jr. runs a nice route and then shakes a defender on his way to the Minnesota 9. It'll be first-and-goal.

Stafford goes to Johnson on a wheel route in the end zone. Former Michigan Wolverine Ben Gedeon makes a nice play to break up the pass. Johnson is stuffed for no gain on second down, but a penalty for illegal hands to the face will make it first down at the 4. That'll do it for the first quarter.

Vikings 7, Lions 0 (End 1st)

Graham Glasgow jumps before the snap. First-and-goal from the 9. Johnson is tackled after gaining just a yard on first down. Stafford overthrows Roberts in the end zone on second down. Minnesota brings the heat on third down and Stafford is sacked immediately for a loss of 7.

Matt Prater's try from 35 is good.

"Snacks" wraps up Cook as Vikings go three-and-out

Dalvin Cook goes up the middle for a gain of 7 on first down and is stopped for no gain by Damon Harrison on second down. Cousins can't complete his third-down pass to Adam Thielen and the Vikings will kick it away.

Brandon Powell calls for a fair catch at the 35.

Vikings take lead on opening drive

Minnesota will start with the ball. Sam Martin slips to the turf as he boots the ball and his kick is returned to the 35.

Latavius Murray picks up 5 yards to the right side on first down. The Vikings go play-action and Kirk Cousins dumps it off to Laquon Treadwell for a pickup of 15 that'll give Minnesota a first down at Detroit's 45.

Dalvin Cook goes up the middle with his first carry of the game for a gain of 2. Cook catches a quick pass on second down that's good for 4 yards. Chad Beebe hauls in Cousins' throw on third down, but is tackled by Darius Slay short of the marker. The Vikings go for it on fourth down. Beebe beats Teez Tabor for a gain of 13 to keep the drive alive.

Murray is Cousins' target on the next play. He gets 16 to make it first-and-goal at the Detroit 8.

Murray gets 6 yards on first down. Jarrad Davis receives a penalty for illegal use of hands. It'll be first down at the 1.

Murray fumbles while reaching across the goal line; Kyle Rudolph recovers in the end zone. Touchdown, Vikings.
