Allen Park — While the moves likely won't become officially until later in the week, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell confirmed plans for three of his roster's injured players Monday afternoon.

First, the team is planning to add rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker to the active roster. He concluded his three-week acclimation window last Friday, leaving the team with the decision to activate him or place him on season-ending injured reserve. To make the move, the Lions will have to clear a roster spot.

Additionally, the team is expecting to start the practice windows for both safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and fullback Jason Cabinda on Wednesday.

Gardner-Johnson, the prized free-agent addition, has been out since suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Week 2. He received medical clearance and will be on track to join the team prior to its season finale in early January.

Cabinda, meanwhile, has been sidelined more than two months, landing on injured reserve because of a knee injury in early October. Beyond his small role with the offense, he's been one of the team's top special-teams contributors since 2020.

Similar to Hooker, both Gardner-Johnson and Cabinda will be permitted to practice with the team for up to three weeks before the Lions have to decide to activate them or place them on season-ending injured reserve.
