Detroit Lions land five on All-Pro rosters, including two first-teamers

Allen Park — The Detroit Lions have landed five players on the 2023 AP All-Pro team, including a pair of first-team selections. It's the first time they've had two first-teamers since 2017, when cornerback Darius Slay and return man Jamal Agnew received the honors.

"Obviously, very proud of those guys, and well-deserved for all of them," Lions coach Dan Campbell said. "Look, it's all part of progress of where we're at. Those guys are playing top-notch football, but we're also improving as a football team, and I think all that stuff goes hand-in-hand. You begin to get noticed, recognized, people see the production you have on a winning team, and it makes a difference."

Offensive tackle Penei Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown are the first-team choices this year for the Lions. Sewell received 36 of the 50 first-place votes. The other 14 went to Philadelphia's Lane Johnson.

St. Brown, who didn't even make the initial Pro Bowl roster for the NFC, gets to enjoy the far more prestigious honor of being one of three first-team All-Pro receivers, along with Miami's Tyreke Hill and Dallas' CeeDee Lamb. St. Brown finished this season with 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns, all career highs. He drew 18 first-place votes and edged out Philadelphia's A.J. Brown for the final spot on the top roster.

The Lions also had three named second-team All-Pros: Center Frank Ragnow, tight end Sam LaPorta and special-teamer Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

Ragnow finished second to Philadelphia's Jason Kelce, who grabbed 25 first-place votes to the Detroit center's 14. This is the sixth time Kelce has been a first-team All-Pro selection. And LaPorta, who set all of Detroit's franchise receiving records for the tight-end position, was bested by San Francisco's George Kittle, a second-time, first-team All-Pro.

Reeves-Maybin, a first-time Pro Bowler and a member of the NFLPA's All-Pro team, was edged out by former Lions teammate Miles Killebrew.

"It was one of the things coach (Bill) Parcells would say, and it went to coach (Sean) Payton that I'll never forget, it's one thing to be a great player on an average team, but it's different to be a great player on a great team," Campbell said. "You can never lose sight of those things."
