Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers: Everything to know about how to watch, listen, stream game

The Detroit Lions are one victory away from what could be their first Super Bowl.

The team will travel to Santa Clara, California, this week to play the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.

The Lions haven't faced the 49ers this season, but the teams have the same record: 12 wins and five losses in the regular season. The Lions have won two post-season games and the 49ers one.

Here's everything you need to know to take in Sunday's game:

What time is the game?

The NFC championship will be 6:30 p.m. Sunday, which is 3:30 PT time in California, where the game will be played.

How can I watch the game in person?

If you want to watch the game in California, be prepared to spend big: As The Detroit News reported earlier this week, flights to San Jose (the closest major airport to the stadium) are more than $1,000 on most airlines.

There still is an option to watch the game at Ford Field with other fans. The stadium is putting on a watch party, where fans can sit in 100-section seats and watch the game on all video boards and display screens. There will be appearances by the Detroit Lions cheerleaders as well as Roary, and there will be exclusive giveaways.

Tickets sold out quickly to that event, but they're available through Ticketmaster's verified resale starting around $35 and going to around $50 — much cheaper than tickets at Levi's Stadium, where tickets in the 400-section seats start around $450 and can cost more than $7,500 with fees, depending on where you're looking to sit.

If you travel, you won't be alone. VividSeats, a company that resells tickets to major events, estimates that 22% of fans at Levi's Stadium will be cheering for the Lions, or almost 1 in every 4 fans.

If you want to stay in town but want to skip Ford Field, there are a variety of sports bars you can also check out.

Where can I stream the Lions game against the 49ers?

The game will be shown on Fox. You also can watch it on the Fox Sports app and NFL+.

If you'd prefer to listen to the Lions game, you can do that through 97.1 FM, The Ticket, in Detroit. If you live outside Metro Detroit, the Lions have affiliate stations. You can see them at www.detroitlions.com/tunein/lions-radio-network.

Have the Lions played the 49ers recently?

Detroit did not face San Francisco this season, but the teams have played plenty of times before.

The teams have played 68 times, according to stats from the 49er's website. They've played twice in the post-season, with one win per team. They've been at San Francisco both times.

It's worth noting that the last time the Lions went on to win the championship (which was before the introduction of the Super Bowl) in 1957, they beat none other than the 49ers in the conference championship. (Their other post-season meeting, in 1983, was not as successful. The Lions lost by a single point in the divisional playoffs.)

Who will be announcing the NFC championship?

The broadcasters for the game will be Kevin Burkhardt, who will be doing play-by-play, as well as Greg Olsen, who will be the color analyst. Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi will be sideline reporters.

Who is going to win the Lions-49ers game?

It's hard to say for sure — the teams have the same record this year going into the game. But DraftKings has the 49ers up by 7.5 points. BetMGM has the 49ers up 7 points.

But that hasn't discouraged Lions fans. In an odds post on its website Thursday afternoon, BetMGM noted that "Many Michigan bettors lined up behind the Lions even before the season began, at one point accounting for nearly half the entire NFC Championship ticket market."

What happens if the Lions win?

That would mean that for the first time in history, the Lions would go to the Super Bowl.

For fans, that would be the game of a lifetime. As The Detroit News reported earlier this week, many of the fans who remember the 1957 championship title are in their 70s and older.

That game will be played in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium.
