Allen Park — Brock Wright isn't going anywhere.

Five days after the San Francisco 49ers signed the restricted free agent tight end to an offer sheet, the Detroit Lions exercised their first right of refusal and matched the three-year, $12 million contract.

The Lions will retain tight end Brock Wright (89).

The Lions have previously extended a one-year tender offer to Wright, worth nearly $3 million but non-guaranteed. By reaching an agreement with the 49ers, Wright significantly increased his earnings, which reportedly includes $6 million in guarantees.

Originally signed by the team as an undrafted free agent in 2021, Wright has been a steady contributor during his three seasons with Detroit. In 41 games, he's caught 43 of 55 targets for 424 yards and seven touchdowns. Primarily a blocker, especially following the addition of Sam LaPorta in last year's draft, Wright has averaged 438 offensive snaps per season, while contributing more than 150 per year on special teams.

In addition to exercising the option to retain Wright, the Lions also announced they've re-signed cornerback Kindle Vildor.

An early-season addition to the team's practice squad in 2023, he earned a midseason promotion and went on to appear in the team's final five regular-season games, including starting the final two. He also started all three of the Lions' playoff contests. He tallied 10 tackles, two pass defenses and a forced fumble for the team during the regular season.
