Lions announce uniform numbers for Davis III, Reader, Zeitler and others
The Detroit Lions announced uniform numbers for several of the team's new additions on Monday, as well as new numbers for multiple returning players.
Cornerback Carlton Davis III will wear the No. 23, most recently worn by Jerry Jacobs and previously worn by Jeff Okudah and Darius Slay. The team's other new corner, Amik Robertson, gets the No. 21 that belonged to Tracy Walker the past five seasons.
Defensive tackle DJ Reader will take over the No. 98 he's worn his entire professional career, while second-year lineman Brodric Martin, who donned the number as a rookie last season, moves to No. 99.
Among Detroit's other signings, Kevin Zeitler will wear No. 71, Marcus Davenport No. 92 and CFL star Mathieu Betts No. 95.
Several players will have new jersey numbers, headlined by quarterback Hendon Hooker, who goes from No. 12 to No. 2, which was worn by safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson in 2023.
The No. 0 and No. 1 jerseys remain unclaimed. There was some speculation wide receiver Jameson Williams would make a push for the No. 1 after expressing interest last year, but his mother squashed that idea with a social media post over the weekend.
