OctoPulse podcast: Mickey Redmond's bold prediction, Madison Packer interview
Ted Kulfan takes a look at the Wings' improved playoff chances two weeks before the trade deadline and Madison Packer is the interview guest.
On the podcast, Kulfan said he doesn't think Mickey Redmond's bold prediction the other night "wasn't that bold of a prediction."
After two periods against the Avalanche on Thursday and Detroit trailing 1-0, Redmond, the former Red Wings' forward and current Bally Sports Detroit color analyst, said the Red Wings would make the playoffs if they came back and won the game.
Detroit did come back, winning 2-1 in overtime on Patrick Kane's game winner and are now 11 games over .500 at 31-20-6 after Saturday's 6-1 win against the Blues at Little Caesars Arena.
"None of the teams behind them are gaining any kind sort of traction whatsoever," Kulfan said on the podcast. "Frankly do you see any of those teams warming up to a really big hot streak? Honestly, I don't. The one I'm kind of eyeing still is Pittsburgh but they would have to do a lot of work.
"New Jersey doesn't seem to be able to get it going. The same with the Islanders. I thought the Islanders with Patrick Roy would be invigorated but they're stuck in mud. At this point, I think it would be a total collapse for the Wings not to make the playoffs."
