Panthers (2-2) shut down by Brahmas, lose 19-9 in San Antonio

The San Antonio Brahmas took a 16-0 lead by late in the second quarter and coasted to a 19-9 victory over the Michigan Panthers in a United Football League game at San Antonio on Saturday.

The Brahmas took a 7-0 lead with 10:31 left in the first quarter on a 5-yard run by John Lovett and the conversion rush by Marquez Stevenson.

Ryan Santoso's 40-yard field goal with 3:14 left in the quarter stretched the lead to 10-0.

Quinten Dormady hit Stevenson with a 4-yard touchdown pass with 22 seconds left in the half to extend the lead to 16-0. Cody Latimer's conversion rush fell short.

The Panthers got on the board as the half expired on a 49-yard field goal by Jake Bates, making the halftime score 16-3.

The score remained unchanged until 5:31 remained in the fourth quarter when Santoso kicked a 36-yard field goal to run the lead to 19-3.

The Panthers reached the end zone for the only time when Danny Etling completed a 41-yard TD pass to Marcus Simms with 3:19 left, but a 2-point conversion pass that would have cut the lead to one possession was incomplete.

The Panthers were limited to 111 yards rushing, 140 yards passing and 13 first downs. The Brahmas had 305 yards in total offense and 19 first downs.

Etling completed 11 of 14 passes for 105 yards. Simms caught four passes for 63 yards and E.J. Perry carried four times for 41 yards.

For San Antonio, Dormady completed 23 of 37 passes for 269 yards. Justin Smith caught seven passes for 107 yards and Jontre Kirklin four passes for 105 yards.

Michigan falls to 2-2, and San Antonio is 3-1.
