Detroit City FC and Loudoun United FC played to a scoreless draw on a rainy, soggy Saturday evening in a United Soccer League Championship match at Leesburg, Virginia.

It was DCFC's second straight match without a victory after it started the season 5-0. DCFC was beaten by Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, 2-0, on April 27.

Matt Sheldon had the first strong scoring chance for Le Rouge, grazing the top of the crossbar on a rush down the right side in the 37th minute.

Victor Bezzera had a scoring opportunity in the 75th minute, right-footing a shot waist high from near the penalty dot but it deflected off a Loudoun defender and bounced harmlessly to the keeper.

Two minutes later Loudoun had perhaps its best scoring opportunity as Kalil ElMedkhar labeled a shot for just inside the post that DCFC keeper Nate Steinwascher sent wide a with a dive and a fingertip.

The play on the pitch was fairly even, with Loudoun winning the possession competition 50.8-49.2 percent.

Detroit City is 5-1-1, in third place in the Eastern Conference with 16 points. Louisville City FC is second with 18 points and Charleston Battery is first with 24, but Battery has played 10 matches, three more than DCFC and Louisville City.

Loudoun is 2-4-2, in eighth place in the East.

DCFC will face Phoenix Rising FC next Saturday at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
