A 19-year-old Detroit man has been arrested in the 2022 shooting death of another Detroit man.

At about 4:51 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2022, Darnell Jerome Franklin Jr., allegedly fired a handgun multiple times, fatally striking Derrell Rockette, 32, at a home in the 18000 block of Ashton Avenue, in the northwest part of the city, Detroit police said Thursday in a post on X.

Rockette was transported by private ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Franklin was arrested March 20. Authorities have not provided further details, including what led to the shooting or why it took more than two years to make an arrest.

Franklin faces charges of first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent and two counts of felony firearm.

Online court records show he was born in 2005 and his charges specify that he was a juvenile when he allegedly committed the crime. For an adult, a murder conviction can carry a punishment of up to life in prison.

Franklin was arraigned Sunday in Detroit's 36th District Court, where he stood mute and a plea of not guilty was entered by the court on his behalf, records show.

His bond was set at $250,000 and a probable cause conference was slated for 8:30 a.m. Friday.
